Wider Curriculum
Children are by nature, naturally curious, and we want to foster this curiosity, allowing them to learn by doing and exploring through lessons that are active, engaging and stimulate curiosity about the world.
“If you're not prepared to be wrong, you'll never come up with anything original.”
Ken Robinson, The Element: How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything
We aim to provide a curriculum that develops learner resilience and fosters growth mindset based on the principle of “not yet!” We recognise the rate of growth and change in society over the last 10 years has been exponential, so we aim to provide a curriculum that gives them the skills today to be prepared for tomorrow.
“When children aren’t given the space to struggle through things on their own, they don’t learn to problem-solve very well. They don’t learn to be confident in their own abilities, and it can affect their self-esteem.”
Ken Robinson, Creative Schools: The Grassroots Revolution That's Transforming Education
At Rosehill, we want our children to be active learners to follow good models, develop character, independence and resilience. We want them to enjoy every day at school, not because the work is easy but because the work is challenging and they want to rise to it. We also strive to remove any barriers of social or economic depravation and raise aspiration to help all children believe that they can achieve anything if they put their mind to it.
We share the video below with our children in order to showcase all the amazing talent that has already come out of Rotherham and consequently, raise their aspirations and self belief. Why not take a look for yourself, you might be surprised...
“What we become as our lives evolve depends on the quality of our experiences here and now.”
Ken Robinson, Out of Our Minds: Learning to be Creative
We celebrate the Wider Curriculum at Rosehill and the opportunities to succeed it can offer our children. We are acutely aware that, despite our ambition and aspiration for Maths and English, for some of our children, their true strengths and talents may lie elsewhere. We explore and nurture wider skills and natural abilities both within lessons and beyond them through our extracurricular offer of clubs, musical tuition or at wider community events. This is often further enhanced through the provision of our residential visits where children learn about themselves and develop character.
In Summary, we want our children to:
- recognise that school is the key to a better future and allows them to open doors…
-
broaden their experiences and help them learn about the world beyond their locality.
-
foster a love of learning that will last a lifetime and indeed be something that they transfer to their own children and those around them in the years to come.
