Weekly Update

Weekly Update - Spring 1, Week 2

It’s been a busy week in Year 4 as we’re well into the new term now. The children are enjoying our new Victorian Era topic as well as Electricity in science.

Maths:
This week, we have investigated factors and how to draw factor bugs logically which we then used to help us solve calculations. We have also worked on understanding multiplying by 10 and 100.

English:
In English, we have uplevelled an explanation text using our features toolkit. We have also produced some excellent research on coastal erosion which will help us to plan and write our own explanations.

Reading:
We have continued our fiction text, Street Child. The children are really engaged with the story and have done well with both retrieval and inference questions this week.

Science:

We started our Electricity unit this week looking at what electricity is and the difference between renewable and non-renewable energy. We also completed a ‘Diamond 9’ activity which allowed us to rank the uses of electricity at home in order of importance.

PE:
Gymnastics continued this week, with the children focusing on developing their individual and partner balances using some equipment.

History:
We looked at the British Empire under Queen Victoria and how/why it expanded. We also looked out how this formed what is the Commonwealth today.

RE:
In our last RE lesson in this unit, we considered a wide range of questions on what happens at the end of life’s journey and we gave our opinion on a list of statements based on this.

Art:
We continued our project focusing on Lowry and investigated both line and perspective.

Special Mentions:
Congratulations to Henry and Jake (4H), and Daisy and Jessie (4P) for their special mentions this week!

Thank you for your continued support.
