National Coal Mining Museum - 5th June
What a great time we had at the national coal mining museum.
On June 5th, Y4 visited the national coal mining museum.
The children were greeted by a team of fantastic volunteers who split us into groups and took us round the various parts of the national coal mining museum.
Some children were given a tour down the pit by an ex-miner who explained how life down the pit changed over time, the importance of air circulation, the rules and regulations and the improvements to technology and how this affected the life of a miner whilst at work.
Other children were shown round some of the buildings on the site which showed them the workings of the mine.
A final group were given a talk by a miner from 1972 who talked to the children about the life of a miner outside the pit and how the miners were supported by the miners' welfare which really helped the children understand the life of a miner and how it is different to life today.
The children had a blast and the staff at the museum couldn't be more complimentary - commenting that the children from Rosehill were amongst the best they had ever had visit - attentive, enthusiastic and with great manners - true ambassadors for Rosehill.
