U9s Basketball Tournament 2023
Following a thoroughly enjoyable after school club run by Mr Hayes in the Spring term, Rosehill held its first ever under 9s basketball tournament on Monday 6th March 2023.
The competition had 3 teams.
The red team consisted of Harrison, Elliott, Warren, Priyenthen and Dylan.
The pink team was Elsie, Ewan, Jake, Dara and Aaron.
The green team was Carter, Keedan, Zachary, Tyler-Ray, Amelia and Layla.
The teams faced each other twice in a round-robin with 6 games being played altogether.
In the first game, the pinks beat the reds in a close contest which was settled by some amazing shooting from Jake who managed to score 3 times.
The second game was a draw between the reds and the greens with both teams playing very tight defence.
The third game between the pinks and the greens was another cagey affair and also ended up a draw.
There was then a short break as Mr Hayes and Mr MacDonald offered some feedback and tips for the children before the second round of fixtures took place.
The pinks took on the reds for a second time and were victorious again thanks to some deadly shooting.
The reds, looking for their first win, then challenged the greens and, after another close game, came away with their second draw of the tournament.
In the final game, the pinks took on the greens with both teams undefeated so far. The greens came out on top in this game which meant the final results were as follows:
Winners - Pinks P4 W2 D1 L1 - 7 points
Runners up - Greens P4 W1 D3 L0 - 6 points
3rd Place - Reds P4 W0 D2 L2 - 2 points
The children then voted for an MVP from their own team. These were:
Reds - Elliott
Pinks - Ewan
Greens - Carter
There were also 3 awards for super shooters on each team. These were:
Reds - Harrison
Pinks - Jake
Greens - Zachary
Throughout the tournament the children showed that they are excellent ambassadors for the school. Handshakes followed each game. If anyone fell over, the other team would stop to help them up and everyone played with a smile on their face. Well done to everyone involved, you were a credit to Rosehill and we can't wait for the next time you represent our school!
